The early summer we enjoyed last week has come to its inevitable end with a return to Galway rain today, and a fresh weather warning issued by Met Eireann.

A status yellow weather warning for heavy winds has been issued for counties Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford later this week.

On Wednesday afternoon, and into the night, winds will reach average speeds of 50-65km/hr, with gusts as strong as 110km/hr, possibly stronger in exposed areas.

The weather warning will be in effect from midday on Wednesday, and last through the night until 6am on Thursday morning.

Galway is also forecast to receive light but persistent rain throughout the day on Wednesday, with temperatures averaging 8 degrees celcius.

There has been patchy rain and showers in Galway, which are forecast to mostly clear up tonight according to Met Eireann.

Lowest temperatures tonight of 6 to 7 degrees, with a light southwesterly wind. Tuesday will start clear, but more rain will develop in the late afternoon and into the night.
