Weather warning: Heavy winds bringing risk of coastal flooding

Galway Daily weather Rough weekend forecast as weather warning issued by Met Eireann

Heavy winds will bring a risk of coastal flooding in the west and south of Ireland tonight, where a status yellow weather warning has been issued.

Met Eireann is forecasting southerly winds reaching sustained speeds of 50-65km/hr, and gusts reaching up to 110km/hr, possibly even higher on exposed coasts.

Where winds are onshore there is an accompanying risk of coastal flooding.

The alert has been issued for Galway and counties ​Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Munster, Donegal, Mayo, and Sligo.

It will come into effect at 9pm tonight and last until 6am on Tuesday morning.

Monday night is forecast to be particularly horrible in Galway, as this leads right into a second weather warning for heavy rain throughout all of Tuesday.

From midnight, 30mm to 50mm of rainfall is expected to accumulate, possibly even more in mountainous areas.

Some river and localised surface flooding is also possible due to the rain
