Treacherous road conditions have been reported on routes around Tuam following heavy snowfall this afternoon.
Conditions are particularly bad on the N17, the Kilmaine Road (R332) and on all hills around the town.
Road users are urged to take extreme caution if they must make a journey in the area.
More snow is forecast for Galway on Thursday, with Met Éireann issuing a status yellow weather warning for snow and ice.
The warning comes into effect at 8am on Thursday and will remain in place for 24 hours.
