Changes to the direction of traffic flow on four city centre streets came into effect at 6pm this evening.

Traffic will now flow in the opposite direction along Middle Street, Flood Street, Abbeygate Street Lower (between Merchants Road and Middle Street), and Upper and Lower Cross Street.

Upper Cross Street will remain pedestrianised however, and the changes will only affect deliveries in the morning.

Galway City Council says the traffic management plan will reduce the volume of traffic along Middle Street and the adjoining sections of Abbeygate Street Lower and Cross Street Lower.

The council believes this will support safer pedestrian and cyclist access, support local businesses, and give more space for social distancing.
