Met Éireann has warned that wintry showers and ice could return to parts of the country this week as temperatures fall once to below zero once again.
Tomorrow, Monday will start bright, but any sunshine will become dull and overcast with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning heavy in places in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 6 to 9 degrees on Monday afternoon, in light southerly breezes.
Monday night will be wet and misty and some heavy falls of rain are possible.
Tuesday looks set to be the most miserable day of the week, with heavy spells of rain and low cloud and mist. It will be a very wet day across Ireland, with spot flooding possible.
Scattered outbreaks of rain after dark will occur on Tuesday after dark, with localised wintry showers possible.
Wednesday will see further outbreaks of rain, possibly turning to sleet and snow at times, in moderate northeast winds. It will be cold, with highest temperatures of only 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across most of the country.
Met Éireann’s early forecast for Thursday and Friday is much the same, but Thursday looks like it will be much brighter after what will have been another unpleasant week. It will be cold though, and some scattered wintry showers are still possible.
There will be an added wind chill factor by day with frost and possible ice developing after dark.
