Mairéad Farrell TD has called on the Minister for Education and Minister for Special Education to meet with the Parents’ Association of Rosedale Special School in Galway City.

The Galway West TD wrote to Ministers Norma Foley and Josepha Madigan this morning, requesting an urgent meeting after parents described Rosedale Special School as their lifeline.

Deputy Farrell said that parents have detailed the regression their children experienced during the school closures, and said that the development and behaviour of some children is still impacted by the initial school closure.

“They have told me that their children receive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and a whole host of other supports at Rosedale,” said Deputy Farrell.

“All the children’s needs are incorporated into the education plan within the school setting. Parents are deeply concerned at the effect this closure will have on their children once more.

“Minister Foley cannot let the grass grow under her feet, she needs to step up here and act. She must meet with the Parents’ Association urgently and address their concerns.”
