The number of people at University Hospital Galway with Covid-19 has fallen to four, while there is just one confirmed case at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
One of the four people with the disease at UHG is in intensive care.
There are 30 people with the disease in ICUs across the Republic as the total number of people in hospital who have tested positive has decreased to 192.
At University Hospital Galway, there are six general beds available and five ICU beds – the highest number of free critical care beds in the country. There are two general beds available at Portiuncula Hospital.
After yesterday’s update from the Department of Health, Galway’s 14-day incidence rate now stands at 60.1 cases per 100,000 population, with 155 confirmed cases in the county in two weeks.
But despite Galway’s relatively low Covid rate, Dr Tony Holohan raised concerns yesterday evening as the national incidence rate increased with 429 cases reported in 24 hours.
“429 is a large number of cases by the standard of recent weeks and the five day moving average has now increased above 300 per day,” said the Chief Medical Officer.
“Our efforts in Level 5 in recent weeks brought the 14-day incidence rate down to 78 per 100,000 population, put us in a position of having the lowest disease incidence in Europe and ultimately protected many people and saved many lives.”
