Connacht Rugby have helped raise €27,000 for three charities including Galway Hospice with sales of their limited edition jersey.

The ‘Heroes’ jersey was released by Connacht Rugby in partnership with BLK and INTERSPORT Elverys during the first lockdown, featuring a unique design inspired by Superheroes.

The sales of that jersey have raised €27,000 which will be evenly distributed between ALONE, Galway Hospice and Mayo/Roscommon Hospice.

Such was the popularity of the jersey that its limited run was completely sold out within 8 hours of going on sale online.

Mary Nash, CEO of Galway Hospice, said that they are delighted to have been a part of this unique lockdown fundraiser.

The joint effort “showed the commitment of all involved to do their best in supporting front line services during the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.

“There is a strong bond between Galway Hospice and Connacht Rugby and we are extremely grateful to them all for their continued support.”

ALONE is a national charity that helps older people to live independently at home. An increasingly crucial service at this time of isolation for many.

Sean Moynihan, CEO of ALONE said that Connacht Rugby were “a pleasure to collaborate with” on this jersey project.

“Having the jersey sell out so swiftly speaks volumes to the culture of support nurtured at the club.”

“Thank You Connacht Rugby for including all Older People in that exact same support through ALONE.”

Connacht Rugby have also confirmed that their Charity Partnership with Galway Hospice and Mayo/Roscommon Hospice has been extended up to the end of the 2020/21 season.

This partnership will see the club continue to work closely with the Hospices and, in lieu of physical visits at this time, the players and staff are exploring new ways to engage with hospice patients and staff in the lead-up to Christmas.

Mary Nash said “We are delighted that Connacht Rugby’s official charity partnership with Galway Hospice is extending and we look forward to continuing to work with the players and team in 2021.”
