For forty years, the arrival of Santa at RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta HQ in Casla was a big event for local children.

This year, Máirtín Davy Ó Coisdealbha will have a display of photos from those years in various shops, supermarkets and schools in South Connemara from until mid January.

Santa’s visit was tied in with an annual art competition that used to receive 2,000 to 2,500 entries each year from all over the country, and up to 200 annually from Irish families in England.

Children from Gaelscoileanna in Mayo and in Galway city also used to attend Santa’s visit, with up to 1,300 children and adults in attendance altogether to enjoy the festivities.

A selection of these photos can now be seen on the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta Facebook page, Raidió na Gaeltachta (Oifigiúil), and will be part of an exhibition by Máirtín Davy Ó Coisdealbha in various places around South Connemara in the coming weeks.
