Covid rate falls in city and Connemara as positive trend continues

The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has fallen in Galway city’s three local electoral areas, while Connemara had fewer than nine cases in the last two weeks of November.

New data released this evening shows that Loughrea LEA now has the highest rate in the county with 99.1 Covid cases per 100,000 population (23 confirmed cases in two weeks), which is five times higher than it was last week.

Galway City Central has the second highest Covid rate in the county with 86.1 cases per 100,000 people in 14 days, down from 221 last week.

The rate in Galway City West has decreased to just 43.4, with just 11 confirmed cases in the past fortnight.

Meanwhile Galway City East recorded 13 cases over the two week period, giving it a rate of 45.1, a decrease of 50% since last week.

The 14-day rate did rise slightly in Ballinasloe LEA, Athenry-Oranmore LEA, Gort-Kinvara LEA and Tuam LEA, but all have incidence rates well below the national average.

No local electoral area recorded more than 23 cases of the disease in the two weeks.
