Nationwide there were a total of 283 people hospitalised with COVID-19 as of Thursday night, and 124 suspected cases, out of which 38 confirmed cases and 3 suspected are in the ICU.

There were 22 new confirmed cases reported in Galway on Thursday, out of 591 around the country.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan struck a positive note that Ireland is one of the only countries in Europe that is seeing a reduction in its 14-day incidence rate, where other countries are going through a “second surge”.

“Level 5 efforts over the last two weeks have succeeded in further reducing community transmission and disease incidence in Ireland, however, now is not the time to be complacent. We must keep driving down this disease- we must keep going.”
