Coronavirus: 1,025 COVID-19 cases today but no deaths

There have been no additional deaths related to COVID-19 reported today, but the Department of Health has confirmed 1,025 new cases.

Of the cases notified today, 77 are in Galway, the third highest county figure reported, but well below the numbers seen in Dublin (255) and Cork (147).

With the addition of today’s 77 new cases, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Galway has now passed 2,000.

There have now been a total of 57,128 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ireland, and the pandemic has claimed 1,882 lives in the state.

Validation of data at the HPSC led to the denotification of 2 confirmed cases, which is reflected in the national total.

As of 2pm today, 315 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 38 are in ICU. There have been 16 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan reemphasised today that anyone who is a confirmed case, has taken a test, or has symptoms must self-isolate for 10 days.

“If you live with a case or have been told you’re a close contact, you must restrict your movements for 14 days.”

“Everyone else should stay at home, unless for essential reasons or for exercise within 5 kilometres of where you live.”

Of the cases notified today:

  • 508 are men and 506 are women
  • 71% are under 45 years of age
  • the median age is 31 years old
  • 255 cases are in Dublin, 147 in Cork, 77 in Galway, 54 in Kildare, 53 in Donegal and the remaining 439 cases are spread across 21 counties
