Spiddal food producer wins award for unique mayonnaise

A Galway Food Academy producer has won a silver award at the recent Blas Na hÉireann awards for her unique mayonnaise.

Heather Flaherty, who runs Builín Blasta in Spiddal, took home one of 23 silver awards which were chosen from thousands of entries.

The café and bakeryin the heart of Conamara is loved by locals and tourists alike, where Canadian chef-owner Heather brings her own flavour combinations to her menu.

The winning Smoked Onion Mayo has been described as being a totally ‘unique product that must be tasted to be believed’.

Many of Heather’s homemade products are award-winning, and available at SuperValu stores thanks to the Food Academy programme.

“2020 has been another excellent year for SuperValu’s Food Academy producers at the Blas Na hÉireann awards with a total of 66 awards,” said Ray Kelly, Interim Managing Director, SuperValu.
