There were five additional deaths related to COVID-19 and 1,095 new confirmed cases reported by the Department of Health today.
The breakdown does not show how many of today’s notified cases are in Galway, but the latest county figures up to Tuesday’s reported figures show that there have been 1,162 COVID-19 cases in Galway, of which 39 were notified yesterday.
There have now been a total of 45,243 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland, and the coronavirus pandemic has claimed a total of 1,835 lives in the state.

Of the cases notified today:
- 529 are men / 552 are women
- 70% are under 45 years of age
- the median age is 31 years old
- 246 in Dublin, 185 in Meath, 128 in Cavan, 118 in Cork, 63 in Kildare and the remaining 342 cases are spread across all remaining counties
There 232 patients in hospital with COVID-19 nationwide today, of whom 30 are in Intensive Care. Nine of these hospitalisations have been in the last 24 hours.
“Today, we again report a daily new confirmed case figure over 1,000,” said Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, “This situation is extremely concerning. Every single one of us has a role to play.”
“We each need to reduce contact with other people as much as possible, so that means staying at home, working from home where possible, practicing physical distancing and stopping discretionary”
Dr Ronan Glynn reiterated his call for people to reduce their social contacts and avoid gathering in large groups.
