There are now over 200 people with Covid-19 in Irish hospitals and 30 people with the illness in intensive care, according to the HSE’s latest figures.

But of the 201 people with the virus in hospitals across the State, the most recent data shows that there are just two confirmed cases in Galway hospitals.

There is one confirmed case in University Hospital Galway and one person with the illness at Portiuncula, while there there are no cases in ICU at either hospital.

The latest HSE figures also show the lack of beds available at these hospitals – there are just seven general beds and two critical care beds available at UHG, and only six general beds at Portiuncula where there are three further suspected Covid-19 cases.

Cavan Hospital has the most confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Republic (22), followed by Beaumont, Tallaght, Cork and Letterkenny.

Speaking yesterday evening, Dr Ronan Glynn, warned people that they must act now to halt the spread of the virus.

“In the past 24 hours, there have been 35 new admissions of laboratory confirmed cases to hospital and 4 new admissions to ICU,” said Dr Glynn.

“There are now 199 people in hospital and 31 in ICU. Every age group, location and household needs to act now, limit your contacts and stop the disease in its tracks.”
