A Level 5 lockdown could be implemented across the entire country in an attempt to halt the spread of the coronavirus after NPHET recommended the drastic measure to government this evening.
RTÉ News reports the recommendation was included in a letter sent to the government tonight after NPHET met earlier today to discuss the current rise in Covid-19 cases across Ireland.
In Level 5, people are asked to stay at home, except to exercise within 5km of their home, and no gatherings can take place other than small funerals and weddings.
The Department of Health reported 364 new cases of the virus today, but no further deaths were reported. Twenty-three new cases were confirmed in Galway.
There are currently 21 people in ICU with Covid in the State, and 134 people in total in hospitals with the illness.
