A criminal case of alleged theft from a shopping centre in Galway was unable to go ahead, as the accused had been extradited to Northern Ireland for other criminal matters.

John McDonagh (52), with an address at Ardnacassa, Longford had been due to dace charges of theft before Galway District Court.

It was alleged that April 30 of 2019, that he stole €212 worth of goods from Evergreen in Galway Shopping Centre.

However, when his case came up last week, the court heard that he was due to be extradited to Northern Ireland for other criminal matters there, and it was unclear if he was still in the country.

On Monday, Gardaí confirmed that McDonagh had been extradited to Northern Ireland on September 2.

In light of this, the state asked for the prosecution to be withdrawn, as they were unable to take the matter any further.
