There have been a total of 307 new cases of COVID-19 reported by NPHET today in a significant spike in daily cases, along with one further death.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ireland has now passed 30k for the first time, with a total of 30,080 cases in the coronavirus pandemic.

The death toll from the coronavirus in the state now stands at 1,778 people.

Of the cases reported today, 6 are in Galway. The latest county breakdown of figures, not including the cases reported today, shows 540 cases in Galway.

Validation of data by the HPSC has resulted in the denotification of 1 previously confirmed case, which is reflected in the national total.

“I urge everyone to follow the public health advice and keep your distance,” said Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer.

“Do not underestimate the risks associated with any of your interactions, including with your family, friends or work colleagues.”

“Now is not a time to let down your guard – assume that you or those that you meet may be infectious and act accordingly.”

The Cabinet today approved plans for pubs which don’t serve food to reopen on September 21 with new safety measures in place, which are mostly in line with those for pubs which have already been allowed to reopen.

Of the cases notified today;

  • 160 are men / 146 are women
  • 73% are under 45 years of age
  • 64% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
  • 72 cases have been identified as community transmission
  • 182 in Dublin, 25 in Kildare, 19 in Limerick, 15 in Wexford, 15 in Louth, 8 in Wicklow, 6 in Galway, 6 in Clare, 6 in Kilkenny and the remaining 25 cases are located in Cavan, Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath.
