The Town Hall and Black Box theatres in Galway City are reopening for live events from this weekend after a prolonged period of closure due to COVID-19.
Both theatres will reopen for a limited number of events each week starting from Saturday, September 5, with reduced capacity to comply with social distancing guidelines.
Events will typically run for 60 – 70 minutes without an interval, and all tickets must be purchased in advance online or over the phone.
The box office will not initially be open to the public, and neither will the bar at the Town Hall Theatre, in order to comply with public safety guidelines.
The line up for September includes a mix of talks and performances for Galway International Arts Festival, which is kicking off its revised Autumn programme this week.
Also to look forward to this month are concerts by Sean Keane (Sep 19) and Mary Coughlan (Sep 24-25) and a special Culture Night (Sep 18) event with the Town Hall’s Remote Control Artist In Residency and Galway Dance project.
Sean Keane will be playing some of his classic folk ballads on stage with Pat Coyne and Fergus Feely, along with material from his new album Gratitude, in his first time on stage in six months.
One of the greatest modern Irish singers, Mary Coughlan will be delivering some of her signature soulful jazz and blues to audiences, with audiences getting a peek at songs from her highly anticipated new album ‘Life Stories’.
Tickets are available for purchase online at tht.ie, and some shows will be livestreamed in an effort to generate additional box office revenue for artists.
So, if you are unable to get a seat in the theatre for such an event, you can join in online to support artists.
To comply with COVID-19 guidelines, seating is being arranged so that each booking is at least 2m away from others, and all staff and patrons must wear face coverings while in the theatres.
Group bookings will be limited to a maximum of 6 people from three households, similar to what is already being enforced in restaurants.
The capacity for Town Hall’s events is currently capped at 50 persons including performers, crew, staff and audience.
