Galway Daily news 25 percent drop in COVID cases in Galway hospitals

Two more people have died with Covid-19 in the Republic and 54 new cases have been confirmed, Nphet has said.

The number of new cases reported today is 71% smaller than yesterday – and again, none of the new cases are in Connacht.

Today’s increase in cases takes the total number of cases to 27,547, after six cases were ‘denotified’.

NPHET says that validation of data at the HPSC also led to the denotification of 2 deaths.

This means that despite the two deaths reported today, the total number of Covid related deaths remains the same as yesterday.

Weather Warning for Galway upgraded as Storm Ellen approaches

As was the case yesterday, the majority of today’s cases are in Dublin, Kildare and Tipperary. Twenty-four are men and 29 are women, while 67% are under 45 years of age.

Dr Ronan Glynn said: “To save lives and suppress this virus we need everyone to reduce the number of people they meet over the next three weeks.

“A collective effort by households and by employers and organisations can make a huge impact on community transmission, and help to protect our families and communities from COVID-19.

“You can still play sport, go to a restaurant and meet friends, but we are asking you to do this in as safe a way as possible.

“Specifically focus on two numbers – 6 and 15. Do not have more than 6 people over to your house and garden, and outside, no more than 15 people should meet up, and even then you should remain socially distanced from one another.”
