Searches are continuing today for two young young women who were reported missing in Galway Bay on Wednesday evening after they failed to return from swimming.

Searches took place overnight and are continuing this morning after the alarm was raised at around 10pm on Wednesday.

The two women, who are understood to be in their late teen and early 20s, failed to return to the beach after going paddle boarding from Furbo beach.

Gardaí and the Coast Guard are carrying out searches along the coast in the Furbo area of Connemara this morning with boats and Coast Guard helicopters.

The RNLI have also been assisting in the search for the missing women, with lifeboats deployed from the Galway and Aran Islands stations searching alongside the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard are appealing for any sightings or information on the two missing women to be reported by dialling 999 or 112, and asking for the Coast Guard.
