Galway Daily news Galway City Council closing public amenities again

Galway City Council has once again closed Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill due to social distancing issues with the popular spot.

The past few days have seen Galway enjoy a rare spell of summer sunshine, with large numbers of people taking the opportunity to enjoy the beaches and ocean down by Salthill.

Blackrock has already been closed, reopened, and then closed again due to social distancing problems in April and June of this year.

On past occasions this action had been taken at the request of An Garda Síochána, and had previously seen restrictions imposed at the Claddagh Basin and Spanish Arch.

In a brief announcement on Facebook this afternoon, the city council said “Due to large crowds gathering and issues with maintaining social distancing, Blackrock Diving Tower has been closed this morning until further notice.”
