Two more people have sadly passed away after being diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Republic of Ireland, taking the death toll to 1,748.
Fourteen new cases were also confirmed today by the NPHET, which means there has been a total of 25,683 positive test results in the State.
No new cases have been confirmed in Galway, so the total number of people who tested positive for the virus remains 489, less than 2% of the total confirmed cases in the country.
A total of 3,337 people have been hospitalised due to the virus. Of these, 437 have been admitted to ICU.
Speaking this evening, Dr. Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer said: “The National Public Health Emergency Team met yesterday and will meet again on Thursday (16 July) to review Ireland’s ongoing response and preparedness to COVID-19.
“We are at a sensitive stage in the pandemic – this requires caution and collective effort to hold firm and keep the virus suppressed in the community. Continue to follow public health advice.”
