A burst water main is causing water outages to multiple townlands and group water schemes in north Galway today.

Galway County Council has said that areas surrounding Headford town and to the east of it will be without water on Wednesday due to a burst mains between Carheens and Caltra Cross.

The areas affected by these water outages include Kilconly, Ratesh, Shrule, Liss, Gurraun, Logawannia, Rockwood, Bally Fruit Group Water Scheme, Cloghanower GWS and Keekill GWS.

The burst pipe disrupting the water supply in north Galway was first reported by Irish water shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

Irish Water is carrying out repair works, which are currently expected to be completed by 6pm this evening.

A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works.

People in the affected areas are advised that it may take 2 – 3 hours after repairs are complete before full supply is restored.
