Tuam Cancer Care virtual cycle challenge

Tuam Cancer Care in association with Tuam Cycling Club is holding a 3 Counties Virtual Cycle this year to raise money for the Centre’s services.

Tuam Cancer Care has continued to provide its services throughout the Covid-19 crisis, even though face to face meetings have not been possible.

But like all charities, the public restrictions imposed for the crisis have hampered its usual fundraising routes.

This concept has been developed with Alan Coyne of iDonate to replace the annual 3 Counties Cycle, which has had to be cancelled.

The virtual challenge starts on Sunday June 14 and cyclists have four weeks to complete the 208km distance.

Starting and finishing at the Cancer Care Centre on the Dunmore Rd, the route takes the cyclist on a virtual journey through the 3 Counties of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon before taking a short trip around Tuam itself.

Every distance cycled and logged on Strava will move participants further along the virtual route.

Entry is free but participants are asked to register online at www.idonate.ie/tccvirtualcycle to create their own personal fundraising page to share on Social Media.

“Last year’s fundraising events raised more than €33,000 but already a number have had to be cancelled this year,” Galway East TD Sean Canney said.

“With a heavy reliance on fundraising to provide services, the virtual cycle challenge gives people an opportunity to enjoy the lifting of restrictions from 5km to 20km while raising much needed funds for a great cause.”
