Significant progress has made been made on road safety improvements underway at Kilvolan junction in Caherlistrane.
Phase One of the the road safety project, which involved setting back the boundaries at the junction and the construction of a new stone wall, has now been completed Galway East TD Seán Canney has said.
The second phase of the works includes the realignment of the public road to improve safety at the junction for residents exiting onto the main road.
“I have been informed by Galway County Council that these works will be carried out next month as part of the council’s road programme.”
The last phase of the project will involve building a footpath connecting the village to the junction.
The Independent TD thanked locals Barbara Mangan and Stuart Archibald for their support for this project, as well as the “generosity” of the Queally family.
The new stone wall was built through the efforts of the Rural Social Scheme, a programme which provides services benefiting rural communities.
Deputy Canney also thanked former county councillor Billy Connolly for his efforts “driving” this project while he sat on the council until last year.
“I also want to thank the people of Kilvolan for their patience and encouragement along the journey.”
