One hundred face visors are being made every day in Gort Community School for frontline healthcare workers.

The face shields, invaluable in the fight against COVID-19, are being donated free of charge to local hospitals and nursing homes.

The work is being done by the engineering department in Gort CS and has been ongoing for a number of weeks.

Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon acknowledged Gort CS’s Principal Brian Crossan and all those involved in the project.

Minister Cannon says the project illustrates further the region’s commitment to technological excellence to the betterment of society.

“Earlier this year, I was delighted to announce the completion of all survey work and the drafting of preliminary designs by architects of the multi-million euro expansion of Gort Community School.

“This huge investment will ensure that Gort CS has the capacity it requires in the coming years and among the facilities to be created will be a new science laboratory and new technical graphics room.

“So many people from all sectors of society have thrown their shoulders to the wheel in bringing our country through this unprecedented crisis,” said the Fine Gael TD.
