Galway County has been allocated €29 million in funding to upgrade and maintain the county’s roads infrastructure.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland announced the funding as part of €450 million allocated to local authorities for roads maintenance in Budget 2020.
Major projects included in the funding for Galway are €4 million for phase 2 of the Ballinderreen to Kinvara road realignment, €840,000 for pavement works on the N67 west of Kilcolgan, €600,000 for the N17 Milltown to Gortnagunnad realignment, and €600,000 for phase 2 of pavement strengthening for the N65 at Kilmeen.
There will also be €400,000 allocated for the Galway to Athlone cycle greenway.
Galway East TD Sean Canney said that he is “delighted” with these allocations, which are ” vital for the maintenance and upgrading of our roads network.”.
“The funding of the N67 Ballinderreen to Kinvara is particularly significant and it is very welcome news that the Galway to Athlone greenway will also be funded,” the Independent TD added.
