An announcement that Galway United and East United have signed a Co-Use agreement for the Castle Park soccer facilities has been widely welcomed.
Galway United will be able to use the Ballybane facility for both training and playing matched for the next five years while awaiting completion of the Centre of Excellence in Athenry the Comer Group are supporting.
Galway City Councillors Alan Cheevers of Fianna Fáil and Independent Noel Larkin both welcomed the news.
In a joint statement the two councillors said “As board members of Ballybane Sports and Community Development we see this as very positive step forward for Ballybane and the soccer community not only in the area but for the city.”
They added that it is good for Galway United to have a place where the club can nourish young talent within the city.
“Galway Utd have a decorated history in the city. This agreement will only solidify the development of their next generations.”
“Overall this is excellent news for the soccer community in the city. Following these developments hundreds of children will feel the benefit which is great news for the club,” they concluded.
The Board of Galway United have welcomed the signing of the Co-Usage agreement to use the facilities in Castlepark,
“East United have been a huge supporter to the club, especially since the establishment of the Club’s underage structure,” a spokesperson said.
“While the Club designs and develops a long-term facility in Athenry, it is essential for us to have the support of East United and our other facility partners to facilitate the operation of our National League underage teams in the interim.”
