Galway Daily news Letteragh housing estate gets planning approval

Planning permission has been granted for a significant expansion to the office buildings of Galway Technology Centre in Mervue Business Park.

Galway Technology Centre DAC submitted plans to the city council for a four storey extension to the rear of the existing office building on the Wellpark Road.

The extension will consist of office space, meeting rooms, and other ancillary rooms, while the development will also involve alterations to the internal layout existing building to increase its floor space by filling in the reception void.

Galway Technology Centre provides serviced office space in a prime location in Galway to meet the needs of companies in the ICT, digitalmedia and other knowledge and service based sectors.

In seeking permission for this office extension, GTC said that they have been operating at full capacity since late 2015 and have been forced to turn away many potential clients.

They note that in 2016 alone over 1,000 businesses were formed in the Galway region looking to scale up and in need of office space.

“The lack of suitable and affordable commercial space is acting as a hindrance to the natural progression of start-up and scale up companies who find themselves unable to move on from facilities such as GTC.”

The application went on to say that there is an “urgent need for infrastructure to support start-up and scaling companies” and that this expansion will provide necessary “Serviced Office and Co-Working space”.

No submissions from the public were made to the city council concerning this development.

Galway city council granted planning permission with a total of 8 conditions attached.
