The Revenue Commission has issued a fresh warning to people to be wary of scam emails and texts pretending to be from them.
The Commission said that it has become aware this week of scam messages seeking people’s personal information in connection with a tax refund or looking for credit card details.
People have reportedly received text messages with pop links embedded to claim a non-existent tax refund.
The Revenue Commission has said that it never sends out emails or text messages asking people to send personal information via email, text, or pop up windows.
“Anyone who receives an email or text message purporting to be from Revenue and suspects it to be fraudulent or a scam should simply delete it,” a statement from the Revenue said.
“Anyone who is actually awaiting a tax refund should contact their Revenue Office to check its status.”
“Anyone who provided personal information in response to these fraudulent emails or text messages should contact their bank or credit card company immediately.”
