The Loughrea based Chanelle Pharma has been named the International Family Business of the Year at the Energia Family Business Awards.
The inaugural Energia Family Business Awards were organised to showcase the best of of Ireland’s family owned business, from SMEs to multinational giants.
The Chanelle Group is one of Ireland’s leading exporters, manufacturing generic pharmaceutical products for humans and animals.
It holds 1,700 animal health licences in the EU, a further 500 globally, along with 800 registered licences in human medicine.
The Loughrea based company is owned by the local Burke family, with founder Michael Burke serving as Managing Director.
2018 saw the pharmaceutical company enjoy great success as pretax profits doubled while employee numbers also increased.
Chanelle currently employs almost 300 people in Loughrea, with hundreds more jobs expected to be created at a new manufacturing facility being built this year.
Last November it was named the overall pharma industry company of the year at the Irish Pharma Industry Awards, the first native Irish company ever to win this award.
The inaugural Family Business Awards recognised companies in the categories of Food & Drinks Producer, Transport & Logistics, Longevity, Innovation, Retail & Wholesale, Manufacturing & Engineering, Professional & Business Services, International, Customer Service, Sustainability, Tech, CSR, Fastest Growing, Small Business, Hospitality, Agriculture, Property & Construction, and a Special Merit award.
The overall winner named at the Mansion House in Dublin on Friday was the Waterford based food exporter Dawn Meats.
