Galway Daily news Sean Canney launches new rural crime initiative

Galway East TD Seán Canney has unveiled a new initiative meant to try and help farmers and others victimised by rural crime.

Homeowners, farmers, and businesses can engrave their property with their unique seven digit Eircode in a bid to help gardaí track stolen property back to its rightful owner.

The initiative is being rolled out by Property Marking Ireland, a not-for-profit company that works with local communities and organises public events where people can get their property marked.

Deputy Canney lanuched this rural crime initiative at Airfield Estate in Dublin recently alongside Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Richard Bruton and Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan.

“I would encourage Community Alert Groups and Joint Policing Committees to come together to use the PMI markings,” Seán Canney said.

Anyone interested can contact their local authorities, while more information can be found at https://propertymarking.ie .
