Galway 2020 is stepping up its preparations for the Capital of Culture, opening up recruitment of its Wave Maker volunteers this week.

The Wave Maker programme is recruiting volunteers who want to get an inside look at the Galway 2020 and help out with all the main events.

They’ll be at the heart of the entire experience right through the year.

Volunteers will help make Galway 2020 happen through stewarding at large scale events, ushering, meeting and greeting, assisting with the box office, merchandising.

Wave Makers is launching at Tribeton on Merchant’s Road this Saturday, February 16.

Anyone interested can come along and meet the 2020 team, hear from people who’ve volunteered before, and enjoy live music by My Fellow Sponges from 5.00pm with free finger food.

Eric Costello is a Lab tech from UHG who has been volunteering with Galway 2020 since the bid phase.

He said that it’s been an gratifying experience to meet incredible people and contribute to Galway’s cultural experience.

“I got to meet some wonderfully positive and creative people,” Eric said.

“I went to places and events that I wouldn’t otherwise have. I also gained a great sense of satisfaction from being part of the successful bid. But most of all, I had lots of fun.”
