Galway Daily news US tech firm moving plant from Connemara to Galway city

A US tech firm is moving a production facility in Connemara that employs 100 people into Galway city.

HID Global has operated a production facility in an industrial park at Tulaigh, Baile na hAbhann, Connemara for several years.

The company specialises in identity technology, manufacturing secure ID cards that are used in multiple sectors.

Staff at the Connemara plant were informed of the plans to relocate in meetings today.

According to RTÉ, HID Global has said it won’t be making any public statement on the move until its completed the process of engaging with employees.

It’s believed that all the staff currently employed in the Connemara plant will be given the chance to move to the new factory.

The move is taking place as part of an expansion by the company that requires a bigger production facility.

The move to the new will take place in phases over the coming months.

Though this will lead to an increased workforce overall, investment is needed in the Galway gaeltacht.
