Permission has been granted for a housing development in Furbo that involves demolishing and replacing existing structures.
A planning application was submitted to demolish an existing house and outbuilding at Ballynahoun, Furbo and replace it with five new houses.
The designs submitted for the development consist of three 4-bed houses and two 5-bed houses.
They are intended to be built as an informal cluster of two storey homes with a central courtyard space.
The county council received a number of submission from local residents objecting to the development.
Main points of concern expressed were the number of houses proposed for the size of the site.
It was expressed that the density of the development is out of character with the surrounding area, which is largely rural.
Concerns were also raised about the possibility of flooding and water run-off from the site onto neighbouring lands, as well as the height of the homes.
The planning application state that the specific location and orientation of each home was chosen to avoid any concerns with overlooking.
Galway county council gave permission for the project to go ahead with 18 conditions attached.
