A candle vigil will be held this Friday for Rob Murray who lost his life to the River Corrib earlier this month.

The vigil will take place at the Spanish Arch at 9pm on Friday, 25 January.

Rob went missing on 8 January and it has since been confirmed by CCTV footage that he fell backwards into the River Corrib.

Searches are still underway to try to bring home his body.

The Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit announced that the search will recommence tomorrow, Wednesday 23 January at 11am.

Today, political representatives have called for a long-term strategy to tackle water-based deaths along the Galway river.

This follows a petition this week that called for increased action to address river deaths, which has garnered around 20,000 signatures.

In an effort to bring Rob home, a Facebook group – ‘Let’s Find Rob Murray’ – has been created, which now has over 5,000 Facebook members from Galway and abroad, consisting of Rob’s friends, family, and people who have been moved by Rob’s story.

For those who can’t make the vigil, the organisers have asked that people ‘go live’ on Facebook with a candle, or post a candle.
