Gardaí are appealing to the public for information to help identify a man who entered the Corrib earlier this week.
A taxi driver reported seeing a man enter the river Corrib at O’Brien’s Bridge in the city at around 11:30pm on Wednesday night.
Searches were carried out by Gardaí and the Coast Guard at the time, but the man was not recovered.
Further searches are being carried this weekend, with gardaí liaising with Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit.
Efforts made to identify the man, believed to be white male in his 20s have been unsuccessful.
There is cctv footage of the incident, but gardaí say the quality of the footage means it has not helped them in identifying the man.
Dashcam footage from taxi drivers in the area was also examined, but was unable to provide any assistance.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone concerned about a friend of loved one they have not heard from since Wednesday night, or a student studying in the city who hasn’t returned home for the weekend, to contact Galway gardaí at 091 538 000.
