The Galway Bay Hotel had a profitable year as the company which owns it, the Hodson Bay hotel group, saw its profits rise to €3.1 million.
The company, owned by the O’Sullivan family, controls the four-star Galway Bay Hotel, as well as the Hodson Bay hotel outside Athlone, and the Sheraton Hotel in Athlone town centre.
The Irish Independent reports that the group saw a fiver percent increase in profits last year as revenue rose to €30.98 million.
This year the group plans to expand with the opening of the 234-bedroom Hyatt hotel at the Coombe in Dublin in May.
The group has invested €40 million in the new hotel which will bring the total number of people it employs to nearly 700.
