Galway’s National Primary and Secondary roads will be getting some major maintenance done courtesy of a multi million funding package revealed this week.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland have announced that €21.5 will be spent on improving roads throughout county Galway.
Galway East TD and Minister of State for Rural Affairs, Natural Resources and Digital Development Seán Canney said this funding will be used to support a wide range of projects.
Works such as the Milltown to Carrownurlar realignment, Claregalway traffic calming, works from Abbeyknockmoy to Annagh Hill are some of things included in the funding package.
Also taking place are works at Ballindereen to Kinvara Phase 2 , Kilmeen and Kinvara, and works for route lighting and general maintenance.
Minister Canney said that “the condition of the roads in Galway are in a poor state after years of neglect” and added that he was delighted TII is now properly investing in them.
Funding for works on local and county roads will be announced in January.
While this funding is welcome, it’s a drop of almost €5 million on what was allocated by TII in 2018.
The funding for Galway is part of €338 million for National roads around the country announced by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
