St. Brendan’s National School in Portumna has received welcome support to improve on its services for students with special education needs.
The Primary School has received funding to provide for a new Special Education Training Room.
Approval and funding for the new room comes from the Department of Education’s Additional Accommodation Scheme.
Galway East TD Sean Canney said this was welcome news for students with special education needs in Portumna.
“The funding is very important for the school in Portumna as it provides the facility to allow special education to be delivered to students.”
“Education provides the pathway to future jobs and employment. It is important that we as a Government provided all facilities to all of our schools,” Deputy Canney finished.
The Additional Accommodation Scheme is meant to ensure that schools have sufficient appropriate classroom space for the students enrolled each year.
Where any unmet need is expected to last for less than three years, the school can get support to rent temporary accommodation for this period.
But if the school is in need of more permanent space it may apply for grant funding to buy a prefab or build a permanent classroom.
