Galway Daily news Eamon O Cuiv disappointed Fianna Fáil not going ahead with SDLP merger

Éamon Ó Cuív has ‘no regrets’ about appearing at the the botched launch of Cllr Sorcha McAnespy in Omagh, following the Galway TD’s sacking from the Fianna Fáil front bench last week.

The Galway West TD said that he accepts the decision made by Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin as it was a decision he felt he needed to make and that it was the party leader’s “prerogative” who was on the front bench

Speaking to Galway Daily following his removal from the Fianna Fáil front bench, Ó Cuív said that it won’t affect his work here in Galway. It would have ‘no negative impact on Galway West’, and he said that he will continue to work as he had always done so in the constituency.

The decision to replace Ó Cuív followed the launch of Councillor Sorcha McAnespy as Fianna Fáil’s first ever candidate in the North.

This historic decision for Fianna Fáil to finally officially run candidates north of the border was quickly rebutted by Fianna Fáil HQ who seemed to have no knowledge of the campaign launch.

It became clear that the decision wasn’t confirmed or approved at the time. This caused understandable embarrassment and confusion for the party, leading to a allegations of disorganization.

Eamon Ó Cúiv confirmed to Galway Daily news TD eAMON ó CUÍVthe party leadership that he was aware the launch was unauthorized but still decided on attending the meeting to give McAnespy his endorsement.
