Medtronic medical devices company has received permission to go ahead with an expansion to their campus in Galway city.

The development will consist of adding a two storey extension onto the rear of Building 2 in the Medtronic campus at Parkmore West Business Park.

Other renovations will also be made to Building 2 including constructing a new entrance lobby, a bridge linking it to the new extension from the first floor, and adding two new meeting rooms at reception.

In order to make room for this expansion, a single storey canteen in the complex will be demolished.

The two storey extension is also being built on the site of the existing car park for Building 2, with the loss of 41 spaces.

A new carpark will also be constructed to the northwest of Building 2 with 92 car spaces and 8 motorcycle spaces.

The application included a letter from the IDA giving Medtronic permission to carry out these works on its land.

No submission were received by the county council regarding this project, and council planners raised no objection.

Galway county council gave permission for the development to go ahead with a total of seven conditions attached.
