GMIT is helping new and finishing students find their next step on the path this week by holding an Open Day and Graduate Careers Fair on the same day.

On Tuesday, November 6 GMIT will open its doors for secondary schools students, their parents, and anyone interested in returning to education with an Open Day from 10am – 1pm.

A Careers Fair with dozens of employers from around Ireland will be on campus the same day to show those coming to end of their time in college what the future could hold.

Information stands and an expo with a variety of employers, professional bodies and recruitment companies will be open at St. Mary’s Hall on campus.

Anne Donnelly, Student Services & Careers Officer, says: “We hope to have approximately thirty companies and organisations in attendance.”

CIMA, CMS Distribution, CPA Ireland, Chartered Accountants, CPL Healthcare, Arcon Recruitment, Employability Mayo, Delphi Adventure Centre and Voluntary Service Ireland are some of the employers that are set to be present to talk to students tomorrow.

There will also be a lot of interaction and workshops for incoming to students to take part in to see what any future course they might take would be like.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about full time and part time courses on offer at GMIT Mayo campus,” added Anne Donnelly.

“The additional feature of having employers and recruitment companies at the open morning will give students further information about new and emerging trends in careers and the areas where demand is growing for graduates.”

GMIT Mayo’s Access Officer, counsellor, chaplain and other staff will be available to answer any questions visitors may have about GMIT’s access and disability service, scholarships, financial supports, medical and student service and many more.

In addition, visitors will have an opportunity to view the beautiful interior of the GMIT Mayo campus, formerly St Mary’s hospital, which has been restored and refurbished in recent years into a state of the art learning centre with excellent facilities.

Head of Business, Humanities, and Technology at GMIT Michael Gill said the day was “a wonderful opportunity to discover and find out more about the different options that are available on your doorstep in terms of higher education.

“Please come along and see what is on offer. It could very well be the beginning of another great adventure in your life.”
