A celebratory ‘Open Day’ to officially launch The Dockside Deli will be held by Galway Bay Seafoods next week.

The free event on Friday 19 October will give people the opportunity to sample The Dockside Deli’s cold and hot seafood choices, designed to showcase the abundance of seafood and edible seaweeds available on Ireland’s west coast.

It also hopes to help get the public eating in a fresh, healthy and sustainable way.

Noel Holland, owner of Galway Bay Seafoods, said: “We are delighted to open our doors to the public to showcase what we have to offer with our new innovation The Dockside Deli.

“Though tradition is strong within the business, we have always adapted and changed to keep ahead of the pace and we look forward to introducing this exciting new venture to the people of Galway.”

Andrew Keady, general manager of The Dockside Deli, said that they have used their years of experience of craft fishmongering to create something unique, and that they are proud to say it is the first of its kind in Ireland.

“People can come in to experience the exceptional fresh fish and seafood we have on offer, learn about the traditions and culture of the local Galway fishing industry, as well as see specialist skills, processes and techniques in action,” he said.

Alongside complementary seafood tasters, in-house professional chef Kevin Hynes will present talks on topics including edible seaweeds and smoking fish.

Head chef Kevin Hynes added: “The Dockside Deli is a hugely exciting project and one I am very proud to be a part of. We want to share our passion for wonderful seafood with the people of Galway, and the Open Day provides an opportunity for them to come along and experience something special taking place right on their doorstep.”

The Open Day is taking place from 11.00am until 4.00pm on Friday 19 October at The Dockside Deli, New Docks, Galway city where there will be plenty of free parking and everyone is welcome.
