Our opening round of the 2018 Galway Daily Football All-Stars saw the 63 nominees whittled down to 45 ahead of today’s (Tuesday) semi-finals.
All seven Galway contenders qualified from the opening round and will take their place in the field – Eoghan Kerin, Sean Kelly, Sean Andy O Ceallaigh, Tom Flynn, Ian Burke, Damien Comer, Shane Walsh.
Dublin have 13 remaining (having lost four), followed by Galway (7), Monaghan (7), Tyrone (6), Donegal (4), Kerry (3), Kildare (2) while Carlow, Cavan and Laois have one player each left. Fermanagh and Armagh lost their representatives.
Adjudicators had to make the following decisions after players finished level:
Among the defenders, they sided with Kerry’s Gavin White over Dublin’s Michael Fitzsimons.
Among the midfielders, they sided with Cavan’s Gearoid McKiernan over Monaghan’s Darren Hughes.
Among the attackers, they sided with Carlow’s Paul Broderick over Dublin’s Cormac Costello.
And among the attackers, they sided with Kildare’s Paul Cribbin over Monaghan’s Dermot Malone.
Those unlucky to be eliminated included Conor McAliskey (Tyrone), Paul Flynn (Dublin), Che Cullen (Fermanagh) and Niall Sludden (Tyrone).
The semi-finals will see 15 groups containing three players each across the four categories (one goalkeeper, six defenders, two midfielders, six attackers). The top two from each group advances to Wednesday’s finals. All players were seeded based on quarter-final results.
So, join us in deciding our team of the year and we’ll update latest scores/results each day. All ties will be decided by our adjudication committee and we look forward to seeing what 15 players make the final cut on Thursday (20th September).
