Last year, nearly 100 people took part in the inaugural Galway Camino pilgrim walk, and this month, the Galway Camino Walk is back again.
It kicks off at 12 noon on Saturday 22 September from Galway Cathedral, and will take in seven holy sites around the City.
The Camino involves seven holy sites in Galway including The Poor Clares Convent in Nuns Island, St Nicholas Church, Franciscan Abbey, Augustinian Church, Dominican Claddagh and St Joseph’s Church.
The Galway Camino Pilgrim walk has been organised by the Knights of Columbanus and each pilgrim will receive a Galway Camino booklet which is to be stamped at each site.
Upon returning to Galway Cathedral, with all seven stamps, a Galway Camino Certificate of Completion will be given. The Galway Camino registration office will be open at Galway Cathedral from 12 noon.
Walkers can start whenever they wish provided they return to Galway Cathedral at 5.30 pm at the latest.
The estimated duration of the walk is two hours (plus any time spent at each site) and the booklet supplied will contain the map.
“We were delighted with the turnout and the feedback from last year’s walk. It was such a socialable afternoon and so many people from Galway came and had in fact not actually visited a couple of the sites before.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone and everyone to come together to walk through Galway and visit some of our well know holy sites.
“Each walker will get a certificate to showcase they have visited all sites and we are hoping to see hundreds taking part on the day,” explained Knights of Columbanus Grand Knight Gerry Ford.
