A Mervue woman was brought before the Circuit Court this week for stealing nearly €2,000 from social welfare on six occasions.
Mary Glynn (26), of 11 Loughnane Place in Mervue, was charged with stealing €1892.40 from the Department of Social Protection over 15 months.
The court heard that on six occasions between January 16, 2015 and April 15, 2016 Glynn stole from David McGinn of the Department of Social Protection at Mervue Post Office.
The amounts stolen ranged from €230 on April 10, 2015 to €500 on December 18 of that year.
Glynn, who appeared in court with her social worker, pleaded guilty to six counts of theft under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The defence asked the court for time for Glynn to pay back more compensation to the Department of Social Protection.
He also wanted to produce a report from COPE Galway, and a psychiatric report from Glynn’s GP before the judge gave a sentence.
The case was adjourned to December 13 for sentencing during the winter sitting of the Circuit Court.
