TUAM AC JUVENILES
The Irish Life Health Juvenile track and field championships took place over the weekend in Tullamore where members from our Juvenile club competed with the very best in the country over 2 days of competition.
There were no medals for the club on this occasion but members did not disappoint with personal bests aplenty over the two days.
On Saturday, Aine Maguire and Myah Gallagher competed in a very high standard field in the girls 600m final. Both girls ran exceptionally well in a very fast paced race with Aine achieving a personal best (PB) of 1.51.88.
Myah finished just behind Aine in a time of 1.55.08. Oisin Phelan represented the club in the boy’s U13 600m event. Despite a very fast pace race, Oisin fought hard and finished with a PB of 1.50.58.
Jack Mannion went into the National finals as the U16 high jump Connacht Champion and he secured a top 5 finish with a final jump of 1.55. Isabelle Moynihan competed in the U15 100m and high jump events. She finished 10th in the U15 girls high jump and ran a strong 100m finishing in a time of 13.99s.
Ryan O’ Connor achieved a PB in the U16 boys long jump with an exceptional jump of 5.24. This was a great achievement for Ryan who is a relative newcomer to athletics. Ella Rafferty took part in the U15 discus and shot putt.
She had a top 10 finish in the discus with a throw of 20.14m and finished 11th in the shot putt with a throw of 6.64m. Jack Hession competed in the U15 long jump and finished in 8th position with a jump of 4.54.
He also ran a solid heat in the boy’s U15 100m finishing in 14.03s but just falling short of the qualification time for the final. Ross Cosgrove participated in the U14 long jump and finished in 11th position overall with a jump of 4.55.
Ross just missed out on the qualification time for the final of the 80m sprint finishing in a time of 10.85s. Danielle Moynihan ran in heat 2 of the girls U12 60m sprint. She ran extremely well in a very fast heat finishing in a time of 9.05s.
Congratulations to all our members who competed over the weekend and to their coaches, Joanna Kiely, Marian Coleman, Olivia Fitzpatrick and Martin Kenny, for all their dedication and commitment over the past few months. Day 3 of the Juvenile track and field finals will take place on Sunday next 22nd July.
This will mark the final day of competition for our Juvenile members in what was a very busy and successful athletics season for all.
The Athletics Ireland Summer Camp will take place at St. Jarlath’s College from 30th July to the 3rd August. This camp is for children aged 6-12 years. Further details and link to registration may be found on the Tuam AC Juveniles facebook page.
