A Galway student has paid over €2800 as a result of a September 2016 incident that left another youth with massive dental bills, Galway District Court heard on Monday.

Jack Ford – a resident of Flood Street in Galway’s city centre – gave the massive payout to Caolan McCafferty after damaging his teeth in an assault nearly two years ago.

The 21-year-old is completing an NUIG science degree and hopes to continue his studies with a postgraduate degree.

He paid €1000 to McCafferty as an apology, and later also paid €1,850 in dental bills that the injured party sent in to the court.

Ford pleaded guilty to a Section 2 assault.

He has no previous convictions and hasn’t come to garda attention since the incident nearly two years ago.

According to his solicitor, the young man is the captain of his GAA team and has a “bright future”.

Ford was given probation at Galway District Court on Monday.
